It is not uncommon for artist's or their clients to find images in paintings that were never planned. But this is truly one of the oddest and I must say somewhat eeriest of the ones I have seen or heard of.
I really dislike taking the time to draw. Particularly on large pieces. Instead I do a rough negative painting of my work. (Meaning I paint "around" where I think I want my subject.) Currently I use paper towels when doing this, so there really is no detail.
Imagine my total shock, when this little Mystery Girl shows up in one of my negative paintings! Not only does she show up, but she has a very Renaissance sort of look, with belt, puffy sleeves, elaborate collar and curly hair. And she was just too good to ignore. In order to make the painting work,I had to move the figure that had been planned, over about an inch so the two could be touching, and then I revamped the theme to make the larger figure an angel.
I have no idea who was watching over me and guiding my hand, but I Thank You for being near me that day. The little mystery girl became the inspiration for a lovely painting.
