The Good, The Bad, And The Deadly

Covered Bridge # 1
 16" x 20"
Acrylic on Canvas
© Cyd Rust 2009

I find old covered bridges to be one of the most romantic of all man made structures. This painting is based on the 1879 Herns Mill Bridge, in West Virginia. The real bridge is built over Milligan Creek and has of course been somewhat modernized, but the romantic in my soul made me take it back a few decades in time. Back to a place where there weren't paved roads or metal guard rails. Where a horse and rider, or maybe a couple out a courtin' found themselves needing to seek shelter under it's roof during a summer rainshower.

Covered Bridge #1
has been donated to my favorite local charity,
Hearts and Horses, for their biggest fundraising event of 2009.

Heres to a world where more of us express the romantic in their soul.
Best wishes for the fund raising for such a worthwhile cause.

Hi Liz!
Thank you for stopping by. This is actually one of my favorite pieces...but I just had this feeling it was meant to go to this charity. It was such a strong feeling, I just knew it was the right thing to do. :) Glad you liked the explanation. I appreciate that feedback. You know my tendency to overwrite. hehe. cyd

So nice to see covered bridges lovingly preserved (great explanation!). Found your blog after "the makeover" and must congratulate you on the striking visual feast it has become.

Thank You MJ, I am so glad you did find my blog, as I enjoyed your comments. I love old buildings, and would paint them all the time if they were accessable to me. Old Barns, Bridges, Lighthouses, Train stations,...I guess what we would call Americana. These I believe are about as close as we get here in North America to the cherished older buildings in other parts of the world.
