There have been a lot of changes in my life this week. And mostly they have been related to both brick and mortar and on-line galleries and competitions. So I am throwing this question out there for any artist that wonders by. Do you think in this economy, Artists really need a physical gallery? Or, is an on-line presence just as good as a physical presence in these days of everyone owning some means of accessing the internet, from Blackberry's to laptops, to ye olde desk top computer? What are your thoughts on this?

Hey Cyd,
Just hoppin' in over to the Wet Canvas site a wee while jogged my memory-
Long time answering your e-mail query, but life intervenes as you of course, know!
Plus it seems you're full steam ahead, anyways...why am I not surprised!?
However....
To answer this particular question...if you can have both...WHY NOT ?...don't think you're in the ranks of the starving artist society - forgive, if wrong - so to you I say Economy, schomeny!
As an art consumer, though. I"d have to say REALIA rules for me- i find much online stuff too paraphrasing of others and pretty pretentioous...which serves to turn me off before I even look...that famed .04 second scan it spot!
Depends on your energy level more than anything-you've no troubles there....and discrimination of market ability-built over time,this-; you've done your research, I"m sure...
Good luck in all your continual endeavors!
Regards,
Chris
PS-
You once asked for blog input C&C; so here 'tis:
I would definitely put your painting tutorial in the right order, though...if I can do it...you certainly can...unless you've done it already?
Anyway, Cheers and good luck to you!
I agree with Chris... why not both. The gallery I'm in is selling art pretty well in spite of the economy (and I'm in Michigan where it's lower than low.) Of course, the fact that it's in a tourist town helps but it's done fairly well in the off season too. I've sold something every month myself... not always a biggie but at least something.
Thank you Chris. I appreciate you getting back to me and for your advice on the multitude of subjects I asked you. :) It is much valued.
Helen, thank you for posting. It sounds like your gallery works really well for you. If I was a tourist there, I would buy one of your paintings. :)
