Day's End

Day's End
8 1/2" x 11 1/2" on Archival Unstretched Canvas

Every year, somewhere near Easter, we get a herd of about 200 Elk that come settle in our valley to wait for Spring, before moving back up to the high country. They haven't shown up yet, and I was kind of missing them....so I decided to try and paint one. I used the extra paint from "the Red Barn" as I had mixed way to much and hated throwing it away. So while the painting isn't quite as golden colored, as I would have made it if I was starting with a fresh palette, I am kind of pleased with the results considering how it came to be. Done in 4 hours and with a very limited palette. I am really pleased with the wooly mullions, sticking up in the grass, as I am not great yet with a fan brush. This was my first attempt at painting an animal.
