It's A Double Double!

Fall Garden received the First Place ribbon in the Acrylic Divison of the TVAL Fall Festival Art Show, making my Second First Place ribbon in one week. Not only that, but my painting Quilt Barn took Third Place in the Acrylic Division! It's a Double Double. My first two Firsts in painting, both within one week at two different shows, and two ribbons for painting at the same show!

Once again the use of Creative Composition in my works was remarked upon by Judge Vicky Russell when commenting on Fall Garden. This seems to be becoming almost a catch phrase for my pieces.

Regarding Quilt Barn she cited  it was a "Good use of media to achieve a variety of textures with the softness of the grass and the roughness of the barn."  As Quilt Barn is one of my favorites, I particularly appreciated she noticed this.

I'll be down from Cloud Nine Shortly. :)

The First First

Zowie
16" x 20" Acrylic on Ampersand Aquaboard
First Place Acrylic Division
Capture The County
Juror: Colette Pitcher

Zowie was awarded the first First Place ribbon I have received in Acrylic Painting. This was particularly exciting for me as I saw these beautiful zinnia's at the Colorado State Testing Gardens. Shot the photos of them myself. Then interpreted this one in primarily transparent acrylics. I even created an Acrylic painting demo of Zowie, which I call my break through painting.

Zowie is available as a Numbered Limited Edition Giclee Print.
Image size 11" x 14"

And I am so proud of this painting, one of those prints is being gifted to one lucky subscriber of Cyd Rust Fine Art News each month through December 2009.

The Good, The Bad, And The Deadly

Covered Bridge # 1
 16" x 20"
Acrylic on Canvas
© Cyd Rust 2009

I find old covered bridges to be one of the most romantic of all man made structures. This painting is based on the 1879 Herns Mill Bridge, in West Virginia. The real bridge is built over Milligan Creek and has of course been somewhat modernized, but the romantic in my soul made me take it back a few decades in time. Back to a place where there weren't paved roads or metal guard rails. Where a horse and rider, or maybe a couple out a courtin' found themselves needing to seek shelter under it's roof during a summer rainshower.

Covered Bridge #1
has been donated to my favorite local charity,
Hearts and Horses, for their biggest fundraising event of 2009.

Cyd Rust Joins Forces With LFA

I am very proud to announce I have joined forces with The Lupus Foundation of America,Inc. to help support Lupus awareness and research. This cause is very dear to me, as I have lived with Lupus for almost 16 years.

I have chosen a very special collection of my small works, which will be called "The Lupus Paintings". These small works came to be in a few different ways. Some came from my desire to paint on a day when I had time limitations - life gets in the way sometimes! Some paintings are better expressed on a smaller scale, or sometimes a larger piece seems like too much to take on, even though the desire to be creative remains. And some of these were done as a study for a larger show piece.

More paintings will be added each week, as my health allows. They will appear on my website under the category "The Lupus Paintings" which you will be able to access from the main page or by using the links provided in this newsletter. Paintings will be sold as they are requested, so please contact me as soon as possible when something speaks to you!

30% of the proceeds from "The Lupus Paintings" Collection, will be donated to the Lupus Foundation of America, Inc.
